I was reading the recent post about how to get exposure to a medical setting. Someone suggested becoming a CNA to get some exposure. I'm thinking that might be a good idea. I checked into the programs near my town and I can do night classes three nights a week and in less than three months I can be a CNA. Part of the training requires a certain number of clinical hours which I think would look really good to selection committee. I'm not really planning on working as a CNA once I get certified, but I'm thinking just the exposure I will get through the class will be enough. It has been really difficult for me to find shadowing/observing opportunities. I live in Tennessee where AA's are not licensed and many of the CRNA's here are reluctant to let me shadow them. Additionally my school does not help students find opportunities. Many of the programs I have found are strictly for pre-med students who will become physicians. What do you guys think about my plan to go through CNA training to get some exposure/experience? I'd love to know your thoughts.
