I have been paid three ways. One was a flat rate of $1200 per 24 hour shift. Watch out for that kind as you know they would not offer so much if you did not work a lot. The other was $800 base and then $100 per hour for any work over 8 hours. The record was 20 hours of work out of 24, which gave a nice check but it totally wasted the next day. The third was I was paid an hourly wage as employee and each weekend day call counted as 24 hours. The payback would come in three weeks as you would work a Saturday, then a Sunday then a Friday call (16 hours) then get nine days off in a row without having to use your vacation time. That happened about every 12 weeks so basically you got 4 weeks more vacation than what was "official." Remember, if they can not pay you more money, they can always give you more time off to compensate.
