It's all a collaborative effort. If the surgeon wants something given, and it's part of their routine, and it's not at odds with what we usually do, it's not a problem. Most anesthesiologists don't micromanage the anesthetists working with them - it's counterproductive. We're pretty much free to use the drugs/agents/techniques we want to use. An "anesthetic plan" is general, or regional, or MAC. It's not "general anesthetic with propofol induction and fentanyl/N20/sevoflurane maintenance with rocuronium for neuromuscular blcokade yada yada yada". It's assumed we are competent and know what we're doing.
