Be prepared for a long day. Morning starts off with some presentations about the school and the program. Before lunch they take you on a tour of the facility and then you get a trolly tour of the city along with a short tour of a hospital you would do clinical rotations at. When you get back to campus we had lunch with the current students. Interviews were after lunch. There are three interview stations (15-20 min each) and you go to each station with your interview partner (another applicant). Just be prepared for the unexpected and random questions, they just want to see how you think on your toes. For instance, explain turbulent flow at the narrow point of a river, given a certain conversion factor do math in your head, and how much would you tip (15%) on a certain restaurant bill. Those were some of the random questions I remember from last year. My biggest advice would be not to be afraid of saying "I don't know." Also do some reflection of your shadowing days before the interview day, they will probably ask you so basic clinical questions (i.e. tell me some drugs you saw used, how is anesthesia maintained after induction, pointing our certain values on a monitor). It was by far my most stressful interview day of the three I did last year (Denver, Nova, and South).
Nova Ft. Lauderdale Interview:
This day was short and sweet. They give you a couple short presentations in the morning, and do one 15-30 min interview with 3-4 faculty members. It can sound intimidating, but just be yourself, the questions are pretty standard. Advice for this one, is your answers really dictate the interview. Try and steer it to your clinical experiences and what you learned about patient care from those. That was my approach and I got accepted there. After the interviews are over they take you on a campus tour.
Things to bring:
I brought along a portfolio with a pad of paper and pen. You really don't need more than that.
Just keep in mind they could have chanced the interview days at each school, but this is what I went through last year. I was accepted at Nova and waitlisted at South if you were wondering. Ultimately I chose to attend Denver. I think there is time to submit your app to Denver if that interests you. So far it is a great school!! Otherwise, good luck at your interviews and try not to stress if you get interviews. An invitation means they ARE interested and just want to get to know what kind of person you are not how smart you are, otherwise you would not be there! Feel free to message me if you have follow up questions.
