There are a LOT of AA's who have gone on to medical school. Some go straight in, others have been in practice for a number of years before doing so.
You say money isn't an issue - but the Emory AA program isn't cheap, and then tacking on medical school immediately following isn't chump change either. For most, that would be a big factor. And there are indeed no shortcuts. When Emory AA's took med school physiology, at least once course was out of the way if you went to med school. That is no longer the case. No short cuts through medical school, and if you end up in an anesthesia residency (as many AA's have done) there are no shortcuts through residency either. You still have to do all four years.
The argument about taking up a slot in an AA program is a lame one. You can make the same argument about MD's who never practice medicine, or MD's who only work part time once they get out of residency, etc. If you want to do it, it's nobody's business but your own.
