I found up to date GRE study books at my public library. There were several copies that were available to check out so I didn't have to sit in the library to use them. Many public library system websites have reference material on them including GRE practice tests. That's how I studied for the exam. I didn't pay for anything and I did scored above the average for AA school. I haven't checked, but university libraries might also have study books in the reference section.
