An AA may have the same skill set in the OR and I have very little if any doubt about an experienced AA being able to practice without an anesthesiologist, but each organization sets up it's own scope of practice that is then regulated by the state.
The AAAA has subordinated its scope of practice to the ASA therefore it makes no difference on how GOOD an AA is he/she will always be second the the anesthesiologist, once again no matter how good or bad or experienced.
The issue over pain management is NOT a shade of gray we both have jobs and I hope you enjoy yours but I also hope that you view your position not as a job but as a career or profession. A job is nut on bolt in at 7 out at 3. Cars deserve this treatment, not patients.
