Posted by Dave J Some places I worked provided "free" insurance by adding me to either the group or the hospital policy. Problem is, those are ongoing claims-filed policies and if the group or hospital goes out of business, it could leave me without coverage in the future. "Claims filed" policies are great for insurance companies but a screw deal for providers. Usually I buy "claims-occurred" coverage only for the days I work for $5 per hour/$40 per day minimum. It is a business expense and a tax write off. That kind of coverage does not leave you exposed in the future. (I think I discussed this in depth in another chain about six months ago..)
