That's too bad about the hens. A few weeks ago I saw a coyote almost take down a deer in the hay field in front of our house. The snow was really deep and the deer could hardly move. There was enough of a crust though for the coyote to run on top. My dog barked and the coyote broke off the attack. But a couple hours latter the coyotes got the deer right behind our place. I found it by the crows and bald eagles making a racket. It was gone to a few bones within 3 days. It is a tough winter here for all the critters. We can spare quite a few whitetails though. Last spring there were 40-50 in the hay field every night in early spring.
