I was lucky last year to be able to buy hay from my neighbor again. I got nice grass hay for $2 a bale. Probably about 40 bales to the ton. Although after helping him pick up/stack hay in his barn and then filling my barn, I swear that it weighed 100 lbs a bale! I paid $125/ton for 2nd cutting alfalfa delivered/stacked in my barn in 2006. Had enough left that I didn't buy any last summer. I know I heard that prices had doubled though for 2007. We had such a dry summer last year that production was down coupled with fuel prices etc. I figure this year I will probably spend twice as much for hay as last year with all the issues. So far this winter though we have a very good snow pack(it's snowing again as I type this) so hopefully we will have a more productive year here. (North Idaho panhandle-near Priest lake). Glad I only have 4 to feed. And easy keepers at that
