Posted by Patty J Well, in the last couple of months it suddenly got worse. X-rays indicated that her poedal osteitis may be back in her foot, and an old shoulder injury seems to be bothering her again also. My vet did nerve blocks on her right leg starting with the foot to determine exactly what is bothering her. The foot or the shoulder. We were both very surprised to find that the nerve block to her suspensory ligament relieved most of her discomfort. Today we had a vet up that specializes in ultrasounds. Robby has a suspensory attachment avulsion fracture. Basically, where the tendon attaches to the cannon bone below the knee a tiny piece of bone has been pulled off by the tendon attachment. The prognosis isn't good at this point. This horse and I have done everything together. She was my trail running partner for many years, we faced bears and mountain lions together, and who knows how many hundreds of miles we traveled together on the trails in the dark. At this point we were doing so well at First Level Dressage I had real hopes of making it to Second Level. All gone...... Of course I am upset that I didn't catch this sooner, but the evidence previously pointed to the other two old injuries to the same leg. So now she is confined for 90 days, which will drive her absolutely berserk! She gets angry (I mean for REAL) If I don't ride her for more than a couple of days, so I can't imagine what I am going to have in a month. My vet said it is not completely hopeless for her. At worst she will still be able to go on trail walks. We were only 12 points away from her Legion of Honor Award!!! She is a tough little horse who loves to go. Hopefully things will go her way. Patty

Today I received some very depressing news about my mare, Mia Rabbia, aka Robby. Robby has been slightly off on her front right foot for some time now. She injured it years ago doing endurance rides and has had (seemingly) chronic inflammation off and on. She has been moving so soundly on it as long as she has good arena footing, but sometimes I can feel just a barely detectable difference in her stride. Everyone says they can't see it when I am riding her.
