Posted by Lily While I wish this was a cool invitation to some mass trail ride or something equally as cool - it's not. Sadly enough our state is in fact being taken over by a killer we have no vaccine for. The new strain of Rhino-Herpes virus is an epidemic we can't control. And from what I've found out by called the local CDC (Center for Disease Control) as well as my local health commissioner and animal care & control - they have no plans to shutting down the palm beach county boarder, setting up a county wide quarantine or even shutting down the border to our state so that this disease can't escape by trailer to some other state with an infected horse on board trying to escape this plague. Unfortunately this is a HIGHLY contagious disease. It has a 35 foot radius on a sneeze. If it's in your barn - it's in your barn. There's nothing you can do to stop or prevent it. There's no known cure. So far only sunlight and detergent stops it from multiplying & moving. It kills it. But - like I said. If it's in your barn, your horses have it. It has a 21 day incubation period - the first sign is a fever spike and it goes downhill from there. Unfortunately over 80% of the carriers are non-symptomatic hosts that just shed the disease. It came from Europe thanks to Warmbloods being shipped from there to Wellington, Florida for the winter show season. Thank you retards. 4 horses have died. There are 21 suspect cases as of two nights ago. They are not CONFIRMED. Only the 4 deaths are CONFIRMED cases of this outbreak. 3 in Wellington, 1 in Jupiter. Wellington, Fl is under a quarantine. Vets & farriers aren't allowed to operate outside that city. But unfortunately this has spread to Jupiter, Fl which is a good 40 minutes away... & they aren't sure how that happened. All we can do now is hope and pray these retards get this under control before it infects and wipes out more horses. Like I stated - there is no cure. There's no anti-biotic or vaccine that can even TOUCH this virus. & for me? I live maybe 15 minutes outside of Wellington. I have 2 horses. I board, train, & ride at a facility that has a grand total of 18 hourses. 1 of which was just taken in from New York. Stupid move. He started sneezing & coughing today - but has no fever. So we're hopeful. Just.... Pray for us. Please. & PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR HORSES ANYWHERE OFF YOUR PROPERTY OR ALLOW OTHER HORSES ON YOUR PROPERTY!!!!! That is the only advice vets in the area can give. Suspect cases HAVE been found as far north as Ocala. ANOTHER UPDATE; -- According to vet sources a group of horse owners didn't report apparently something to the tune of 12 deaths after an entire show barn came down with it. Or so Palm Beach Equine is reporting. It came from Europe. That much is a duh moment right now. All you CAN do is call your local CDC & Animal Control and demand to know why they haven't quarantined Palm Beach County, let alone ALL of Florida so these horses can't escape. The first hosts apparently were silent carriers. Which makes a TON of sense because they're immune system was already built up. It's like when the pilgrims brought small pox & syphallis across to the Native Americans. This is BEYOND the most upsetting thing I've ever had to go through. But there is NOTHING we can do now but hope, pray, quarantine our barns and b###h to the higher ups (pardon language) about shutting down the borders and quarantining the state and posisbly Georgia until some sort of cure is found. I take that back. There is NEVER going to be a cure because Herpes of any form is uncurable. But hopefully we can make this completely lay dormant or find a way of safely infecting horses so that it's permanently dormant in their systems and they're immune. again I URGE YOU NOT TO TRY AND MOVE YOUR HORSES!!!!! You'd be doing more harm then good. Just take temperatures twice a day and hold on for the ride. Unfortunately people were VERY SLOW to react to this and that's why it's gotten out of hand. As more develops I will respond and post. I'll be posting the original article as well as this edit to the Equestrian Community Boards. -T. ::x-posted EVERYWHERE:: PS: If I have not posted this in an equine community you co-member in - PLEASE SPREAD IT IN IT'S ORIGINAL FORMAT! THIS IS VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!" Please pass this around to other communities - everyone needs to know what is going, especially those people in Florida. Apparently this is also in New York as well so I've heard. Thanks guys,

This was posted on another forum that I use and I thought I would add it to this one to spread the word. This seems to be the new bad bug in town and there have already been fatalities in Florida. Please read and pass on to any horse owners that you know who might not be on the forum.
