My leased mare that is currently 4 months along is a tempermental princess, won't hardly ever give you two eyes, looks at you out of the corner of one all the time. She's jumpy, but not really spooky, hard to explain, she's bold/runs through fences (just single wire) or ducks under, has been neglected in the past and her current owner babies her a bit too much. She's not broke, has been a broodmare 5 or 6 times in the past, she just has so much attitude. "don't touch me, don't look at me, just feed me and oh by the way, my butt itches you slave." She's not mean, just not personal like all my boys. The stallion I bred her to, Kiger Sundance, is very sweet, loves people and activity, but he tends to throw fillies, so please everyone, keep your fingers and anything else crossed for a boy!! Of course I'll still love a girl, but boys are just more fun for me. I'm usually not one to think weaning early is a good thing, but if she starts teaching the baby to be b###hy and stand-offish, she's going home sooner than later and the foal can go out with one of the uncles. Likely it will be Teak as he's the submissive, low man right now and he's also the most calm, walks over tarps, through messes in the barn, steps on plastic bags, goes up stairs, etc. He's also the sweetest as far as being around. Donte is a pushy brat most of the time, he'll make the baby mind but may also teach it to be more herdbound, Ash is just too spooky and likely it will start thinking every bush and stump is carnivorous! Advice? This is our first baby!!! I know they get alot of training from their moms!
