Posted by Patty J It only took me 19 years to get this horse into a show ring, and now after two years of Zarra and I working our butts off, riding in the worst heat of summer, and the most miserable conditions in winter and all in a terrible arena, it has finally all paid off. The horse who was once diagnosed as unrideable due to a severely bowed tendon has finally won her first real Top 5 award in a championshop show. Actually, at the age of 21, this is the first time I have shown her in a championship Dressage show. She was actually 4th out of 10 with a score of 65.8% in Training Level Test 4 at the Pacific Slopes Arabian Sport Horse Championship. I was sweating bullets waiting for the final three scores to go up, as I feared Zarra could be bumped out of the placings. But she held her spot and received the Top 5 medal. She was up against some VERY good horses, too. This poor old horse has definitely earned it. And the day before that was the Golden Gate Arabian Horse Association's All Breed Dressage Show. I rode Zarra in Training Level test 2 for a score of 66.9% She actually scored three 9s on her trot work. The judge loved her trot across the diagonal and on the second trot across the diagonal the judge said "would have been a 10 with better bending in the corner". Zarra got 2nd place of 6. Then on Training Level Test 4 she missed first place by one single point, and got a score of 65.736%. Oh, if she had only held still for that first hault and salute..... But it's Zarra, and you never know what you are going to get. My husband couldn't be there to take photos, but the show photographer should have the photos on his website in a few days. I will post a link when they are up if anyone wants to take a look. And to think, I almost didn't take her because her body condition is declining. Maybe again next year.....? Patty
