The Casketeers
This Netflix show based in New Zealand is about Francis and Kaiora Tipene, a couple who operate a funeral home. It intrigued me because of all the Maori words they use (which was apparently translated in the original broadcasts, but Netflix doesn't do so), since lots of the words are similar to Hawaiian. Plus, they deal with a lot of different Polynesian cultures (Samoan, Tongan, etc.), and it's fascinating to find out how they handle funerals and grieving. But it's got me hooked because it's just funny and touching. The handling (and showing) of dead bodies is so sensitively handled, and it's no surprise to find that after this show became a hit the company gets requests from all over the world from people who want them to handle their funerals. The characters involved are quirky and honest, and the show balances the silly and the tragic so well. Find the trailers here: https://www.netflix.com/title/81023023.
