Here’s another one the Brits get “wrong”
Anemones are often very brightly colored but also come in pastels. Americans say pastel with the emphasis on the second syllable, which rhymes with dell or cell or fell. Why do Brits put the emphasis on the first syllable, and more strangely, rhyme the second syllable with pull or full? There’s no u in the word….
