Independant FontSize variable not working in v1.40?

Hi. I used to work with a beta version of 1.40 and put "al_fontsize=25" in my plugins.ini file. This worked fine. But now with my new computer, I've downloaded the final version of 1.40 and put the same string in and it doesn't work! Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
