Well Mr. Crank as much as I hate to admit it but if one is going to compare being a top flight Coon dog to your run of the mill Airedale Terrier up against the run of the mill Coonhound you are probably not far off the mark. The biggest reason Airedales fail is they lack the instinct to locate and tree by scent. That being said there are strains of Airedales that have a much better percentage of natural tree dogs than the run of the mill dogs. I have been lucky in my lifetime to have owned several good Airedale coon dogs. The Treeing instinct is something a dog is born with and it has to be bred for. All the more reason to put the best Airedales we can come up with in the hands of real hunters and we are not going to have much success pricing them at $1000.
You have to remember My Crank is that a well bred Airedale can do a bunch of useful things besides coon hunt.
