The most powerful beam of light in the world isn’t a weapon. It’s a popular tourist attraction.
The Luxor Sky Beam, located atop the Luxor Hotel pyramid in Las Vegas, is the most powerful beam of light in the world. It uses curved mirrors to collect the light from 39 individual 7,000 watt bulbs and focus them into one intense, narrow beam. On a clear night, the tunnel of light can be seen by pilots nearly 300 miles away. The light, however, is not as powerful as it once was. In 2008, the Luxor began using about half of the 39 bulbs each night.
