OMG -- I finished reading this awesome book at 1:00 this morning! It surprised me as I read through it that it was indeed Fiction -- but really?? I had the uncensored version and was amazed at all the grammatical errors, spelling and it appears many ramblings after production review. I intend to read more about F. Upton Sinclair. The book is so intense and moves through so many stages of this young man's life here in the US. I originally got turned off right at the first chapter -- but was glad that I continued. The book is so different. I missed the norm of dialog. The book is written all in chapters and some going on for 2 pages. Thanks for recommending it. Can't remember how the subject came up -- except maybe discussion about the unions here in Fond du Lac and Mercury Marine one day? This book isn't so much about the union per se but the strife in life. There were so many references to places in Chicago that I know and remember -- Ashland Street, Halsted, "downtown", Marshall Field's, the Standard Building, etc. etc. I may try to read the censored version to compare the two. Surely the censored copy has to be corrected for grammar, graphics, etc. All I can say is -- Whew!
