Have lifts performed in 3 lift competitions automatically qualify for single lift records. If adopted, any 3 lift records exceeding the corresponding single lift record would then automatically become the new single lift record.
Rationale:
A lift performed in a 3 lift contest is certainly no less difficult to perform than one in a single lift competition. In the same way that a lifter entered into only the open category can set age group records if he/she falls into an age group category, the single lift records would now be similarly viewed. Also, this could add to participation at some meets. Let's say, for example, that you maintain the Coal Country Classic as a contest of the 3 individual lifts, without any awards for totals. With this rule in place, you could continue in that format, but then give added incentive for 3 lift performers who are not bench specialists to enter the bench division, so that their lifts will also count for 3 lift marks (you could count totals here for records, even if no awards are given). Also, this would make what are, at least in my opinion, higher quality single lift marks, which can only improve the reputation of the ADAU. - Re: National Meeting Agenda Items

130.91.16.65I thought a lifter that just entered the Open could NOT set an AGE group record. In my opinion, (if Ed's example is correct) it doesn't make sense:
For example, a lifter that is 23 years old but does NOT enter the Junior age division can only compete for an Open division trophy. Another lifter in the SAME meet that is 23 but decided to also enter the Juniors may take first place in the Junior division even if his total is LOWER than the first 23 year old lifter who did not enter the age group. The issue of setting an American record for an age group when the lifter did not actually enter the age group I think is analogous to my example and doesn't make sense to me.

72.78.12.44If you are entered in the open you CAN set age divison records. I have set 2 age records while entered in the open only. Many feds have both single lift and powerlifting records. In my opinion setting a deadlift record after squatting and bench is harder than just entering a deadlift meet.
Why is the train of thought that this is any less of a federation because the single lift records are lower than the powerlifting records?
Single lift meets are an alternate way to set a record in a lift without taking token weights on the other 2 lifts. If your are going make the record the biggest lift ever executed then what is the purpose behind have more that one record. Are we asking that the biggest lift be one and only record regardless if it was done during a powerlifting or single lift meet? 96.242.165.117No, what I am asking is that if you can outlift the single lift record in the course of a 3 lift meet, that you be credited with the single lift record as well as the 3 lift mark for the record lift.
If someone achieves a higher single lift record, then, at the risk of using a cliche, more power to him. Effectively, a lift achieved in a 3 lift powerlifting event would also qualify as a single lift lift, for record purposes. But not the reverse. It should be uniform. I see no difference between setting records or winning a trophy. In my example, a lifter got first place in an age group even though he lifted less weight than a similarly aged competitor who did not enter the age group. That lifter basically just purchased the first place trophy and it means basically nothing - the age group winner would have been beat had the other lifter simply wrote a check for a little more money to enter the age category. - Re: National Meeting Agenda Items

130.91.18.42Al, I would like to make an official suggestion for the national meeting. I think we should make everything UNIFORM when it comes to Open vs. Age group issues. I think a lifter must actually enter an age group at a contest to get credit for an age group record - just like a lifter needs to enter an age division at a meet to qualify for an age division award.

1. Powerlifting Nationals
2. Women's Powerlifting Nationals
3. Master's Powerlifting Nationals

5. and so on.

66.249.84.68Make costume checks a mandatory part of the weigh-in process. I witnessed on 2 different occasions, at the '03 Nationals and '08 Central Pa, guys lifting in squat suits. 98.231.132.79I asked Joe about gear checks once, and his explanation was to the effect that there was no way to prevent someone from getting one suit checked and then putting a different one on. The only way to be sure would be to check it during the actual lifting. That makes a lot of sense to me.
Isn't it pretty easy to spot illegal suits and shirts just by eyeballing them during the lifts? It might be harder if the rules weren’t so simple, like if single-ply was allowed but not multi-ply. Question in that regard is - how difficult is it to spot things like squat briefs under a legal suit?
So is this a significant problem in the ADAU?
When you witnessed people using squat suits,
did you rat them out? I would have.

160.93.18.161In ’03 it was an Inzer, last year it was indeed a TITAN. I wear an Inzer singlet sometimes and I’ve seen the TITAN singlet. I use to wear TITAN squat suits and this was a squat suit last year. Had a 4” panel in the crotch from thigh to thigh. Looked like a Centurion. - ADAU roster
