Al.. Record Question

I will be competeing in AGE and OPEN, so if I break the AGE record within my 3 attempts can I still qualify for a 4th attempt to break the OPEN record??....... Also, I read somewhere that the 4th attempt qualification changed. Appreciate if you could clear it up for me.
