The ADAU has come back to Neeeew Jerseeeeey !!!!
OK, That was a bad “Rock” impression, but we have indeed returned to Jersey.
TRAINING SOLUTIONS gym, owned by Anthony Jones, played host to the 2009 East Coast Bench Press Championships. The meet was contested by 11 athletes and attended by an enthusiastic crowd of family, friends and well wishers. Small Group…Big Fun !
Davis Lee, now 8 years old, moved up a weight class to the Youth Male 97# and made a lift of 50#’s before missing an American record lift of 56.5 when he got called for an uneven lockout.
Our only female lifter, Ms. Allison Buchman went 3 for 3 in the 148# Open and had a nice 80# bench in her very first meet.
Hometown favorite Robert Marcellino was in the 114 Open and hit a big 180# bench after weighing in at 110#. In the 181# Open Mario Scotto benched 250# while Junior Josef Adamo hit a nice 300 and came up just short with 320. Anthony Chinchillo was only able to get in his opener and had to settle for 275# in the 198# Open.
Two Big men equaled the high mark of the day. Robert Muretta, 242# Open, and Robert D’antonio, 319 Master, both went 3 for 3 and topped out at 365#. D’antonio was back competing for the first time since a serious car accident sidelined him nearly (5) years ago. Welcome back big man !
It was good to see the father/son duo of Wayne and Hunter Claypatch back on an ADAU platform. They drove the (4) hours from Owego NY and both had a good day. Wayne gave the 148# record good two good runs before settling for 239. Wayne still holds the record at 249#. In the Junior 123# Hunter upped his own Junior American Record to 211.5. Shawn Nelson had a banner day going 3 for 3 in the 148# Open. His 315# bench garnered him the Best Lifter by formula.
I would be remise in my duties as “Head ADAU Homer” if I didn’t thank everyone who helped make the day a success. We had a top of the line FORZA bench courtesy of Robert Marcellino. Calibrated scales were furnished by Wayne Claypatch. And finally Al and Brenda Siegel made a (4) hour trek across Pennsylvania for a one flight bench meet so that we would have National level judges on hand for the American Record attempts.
YOU GOTTA LOVE IT !!!
