I thought a lifter that just entered the Open could NOT set an AGE group record. In my opinion, (if Ed's example is correct) it doesn't make sense:
For example, a lifter that is 23 years old but does NOT enter the Junior age division can only compete for an Open division trophy. Another lifter in the SAME meet that is 23 but decided to also enter the Juniors may take first place in the Junior division even if his total is LOWER than the first 23 year old lifter who did not enter the age group. The issue of setting an American record for an age group when the lifter did not actually enter the age group I think is analogous to my example and doesn't make sense to me.
What is the correct information?
