My newborn son was recently diagnosed with a microduplication of Chromosome 22 (bands 22 and 23). The geneticist tested my husband and I and it turns out I also have the microduplication. I'm perfectly normal (no learning disabilities, behavior problems, retardation, seizures, or any health or mental issues at all). I'm college educated and am a practicing lawyer.
When my son was diagnosed with this abnormality, we feared the worst. Now that we know I also have it, we are less concerned and hope that our son likewise shows no problems as a result of the microduplication. I just want families out there who are diagnosed with the same condition to know that the outcome can be positive and may not be worth stressing about.
