Hi Darlene, did these symptoms just begin? I read everything I can on this syndrome, so I hope I am not too forward. You might want to consider contacting the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). they are very knowledgeable about 22q. I have a handbook from them. I would consider haveing your son's PTH (parathyroid)levels checked. This can cause low calcium levels which can cause tremors, muscle spasms, etc. This is a quote from the FACES OF SUNSHINE HANDBOOK put out by CHOP..."The calcium...is responsible for relaying signals within and between cells, nerve conduction, muscle contraction, energy metabolism, cell growth, and many other critical vital processes." This is common with children who have 22qll deletion. Also, have his thyroid checked. These are both done by a blood test. If was me I would start with this and see if that is the problem and wait to see if ther is an improvement.
Secondly, what I have read (my six year old has 22q11 deletion) the children with this syndrome are 50% more likely to have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) go to www.vcfsef.org, to reqest their newsletter. Also, the children with this syndrome, ( according to the FACES OF SUNSHINE HANDBOOK) ..."...are at greater risk fro experiencing social emotional and mood based disorders. From our research, it is apparent that these individuals show elevations in the areas of internalizing disorders such as depression, anxiety, and a tendency to engage in obsessive and/or compulsive behaviors."
I do not all that is going on with your son, but I wanted to help you. I hope that his problems get addressed and helped. God Bless Your Family.
