I can relate. I have a 13 yr old boy whose mental function is spread from about 6 - 10yrs. I have felt like an outcast trying to help teachers understand. I found the most useful tool was to provide downloads from the internet and highlighting the areas specific to my son and INSISTING they become part of his file at school. My son is very small for his age and I have been accused of not providing him with the proper nutrition etc... It is very hurtful when those around don't understand what you are dealing with. My son is now in Jr High and it is a much better experience. I have learned alot too. I begin each encounter with his teachers positively and I make sure they clearly understand his needs. I often tell teachers, "He is who he is, don't try to force him to be someone else because you fail to understand his disability!"
