Amy,
Thanks so much for your info. He has had some tests done in school and at other hospitals. I am thinking of taking him back to Philadelphia. He was there when he was 4 and is now 10. I can't believe I just found this website. It is wonderful!
Thanks again,
Sherry
: Hi Sherry,
: I know what you mean with the
: concerns over behavior issues. My
: daughter (8-yrs old) due to issues
: with 22q, is definately
: higher-maintenance than my other
: children.
:
: I believe in getting as much
: information as I can. And
: fortunately, there are some good
: services out there.
:
: Have you ever had a psychological
: evalution done on your son? We've
: had two neropsyc evals done on Laura
: (one was through a research project,
: the other was clinical - where you
: get more information) They were
: very helpful - covering things like
: intellectual achievement, memory
: skills, speech and language
: functioning and social, emotional
: and adaptive functioning.
:
: You may be able to get certain tests
: free through your school district.
:
: As far as books or programs to help
: with discipline... I know there are
: alot out there. One program that
: I've attended that I really liked is
: called "Love and Logic".
: They promote the idea of giving your
: child choices in as many areas of
: his life that you can - alot of them
: are small choice that, to a parent,
: would be insignificant. (Do you
: want to wear your blue shirt today
: or your red one?) The nice thing
: is, the parents offer the choices
: and so maintain control in that way,
: and when the times come that the
: parent has to make the decision,
: it's supposed to be easier for the
: child to accept because he's already
: been given opportunities to exercise
: control on his own.
:
: Does it work for everyone?
: Probably not, and actually I don't
: remember to use it all the time.
: But it's a nice tool to learn.
:
: I think you're wise to come to the
: board and look for input. There's
: value in a multitude of opinions.
: Good luck with your decision.

: Hi My son was diagnosed at birth
: with
: 22q11.2. He has had a lot of
: medical problems. Those we can deal
: with. We are having a lot of
: behavioral issues. Does anyone know
: of any books that deal with
: discipline and behavior techniques
: that would be appropriate for
: children with this diagnosis. He is
: mentally at about a 5yr. old level.
: Thanks for any help! Sherry
