Did USN CVs generally paint their decks in the colors prescribed by whatever camo scheme was required at the time? I'm thinking specifically of Wasp and Hornet in their Measure 12 mod of '42 and also the Essex Class in Measure 21 later on.
I read the specs on Shipcamouflage.com which say that decks should be painted in whatever blue variation is prescribed (not stained), then I see Navsource pics and some museum models which appear to show the carriers in both 'deck brown' and/or 'deck blue' all within the same time period.
Looking at Wasp and Hornet...there are aerial photos of Wasp showing what appears to be blue decking, then pics of planes parked on a brown colored deck. Also, a museum model showing her in M12 with a brown deck. Similar situation w/Hornet around Doolittle raid.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to help clarify which color is likely to be correct? I'd like to paint my Wasp and possibly Hornet (already in Neptun camo).
Thanks
