In Memoriam Mark D. Geraghty
Our fellow collector Mark D. Geraghty passed away on 30 November after a long illness. One of his major contributions to the miniature ship collecting world was the recovery of the Wilhelm Heinrich and Noordzee models from the disasterous New York county public auction of the Frederik Menschaar collection and securing a place for the permanent exhibit at the American Merchant Marine Museum at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kingspoint, NY. Some of his favorite collecting pursuits were in rounding up all the Noordzees and Risawoleskas. I am sure that his close friend Burkhard Schütt helped him with the later.
One of his lesser known sports accomplishments is that he was a pacer for a champion 1 mile runner in his USMC tour of duty. 😊
As I was sitting here this past few days, I was thinking about my buddy Mark. I had not heard from him for a while. I will miss him. He did not loose his sense of humor in facing his affliction.
R.I.P Mark, Ulrich and Family
