From the Navis/Neptun site: Rudi started Navis in 1962, first casting in resin with detail about like Wikings. They soon changed to a casting alloy. Copy was starting in 1967 casting modified copies of Wikings (PJ).
Neptun was started in 1968 by his brother Willi.
IIRC, early Navis were kind of color coded (painted) based on the country represented, and not necessarily on actual colors of the Nation represented.
Several years I bought on eBay a few old Navis American pre-dreadnoughts,which did not have the usual color but rather a sort of yellowish tan shade. Recently on Facebook a man named Pauly showed showed a photograph of a number of familiar ships that he had bought at an estate auction. I bought my original Navis ships in 1968 for Christmas. They have a slightly different shade of green than the Navis ships recently bought. These old ships are slightly more crude than the modern Navis ships. Now are those old ships from the 1950s or early 1960s? Tim Niesen
