Re: Removing paint from castings
If the model is entirely metal, with no plastic parts, you can use a commercial paint remover from your local hardware store. It will dissolve the paint within minutes. It will also dissolve glue, so any parts glued on should come loose. But thatís an advantage as it makes clean up easier. I scrub lightly with a soft toothbrush to remove dissolved paint and use a dental pick to get any residue out of crevasses etc. Wash in soapy water.
I know it's been discussed before... but I can't find it.
What is the best cleaner for removing paint from castings? I seem to recall that Simple Green is highly thought of. I also recall that brake fluid is not as well thought of any more, due to chemical changes to suit modern brakes. Lacquer thinner was another choice, but requires excellent ventilation -- and it dissolves plastic. I also recall a Polly S product that worked well, but they are no longer in business... :( Are there others I'm missing that I should be considering? A quick note on what you prefer (and why) would be greatly appreciated!
