Present politics have trumped any idea of Canada deploying F/A-18s with USN
Besides, Canada has lost enough Hornets that ex-RAAF machines are being sold on as Australia stands up F-35A squadrons, starting from 2020.
Would that Australia could decide to fund a few F-35Bs to fly from our own two flat-deck LHDs - let alone lending out for RN operations, with which we have little overlap. I bet we never ever see HMS QE or PoW here, not even for a fleet review.
The USNI article states that QE and PoW would have to operate USMC F-35Bs to fill out their air groups.
A short article in the Proceedings (1979, if I remember correctly) proposed that the Royal Canadian Navy provide and deploy a squadron of F-18s aboard US carriers operating in the NATO theater.
Would that the governments of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand could be persuaded to provide similar groups of F-35s and rotary winged aircraft for QE and PoW.
