Re: Is Stewart worth visiting?
The Stewart was not in very good shape when I saw her in 2004, although supposedly a lot has been done since then to spruce her up. However, the USS Cavalla is right next to her, and was in a much better state of preservation. Considering she got the Shokaku, she herself makes it worth the visit. I'm not sure how much they were affected by hurricanes in recent years...
I expect to travel next year to parts of the USA which could include Galveston. Is Stewart worth a visit - in particular, does anyone know if the engine room is open for viewing?
Not sure what you post is directed at. Stewart remains. It is quite true she is not afloat, but you also said Slater is the only one that remains. What difference does it make? Victory remains, but is not afloat. Does that make Victory irrelevant?
