Recall that the initial topic was about dates of start & end of WWI & WWII.
But if you like to name troubles that "France" had to face despite itself it's ok, I'm open.
I reply here a bit for all connected comments recalling that France of Vichy and Free French cannot be melted to insinuate his responsibility in the war different situations.
France was in war officially only from Sept 39 to June 40 and this in alliance with Britain against Hitler attack against Poland. French ships fought including in Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, and as much their Gov came in exile it was not any reason to be in war at not anytime with them including Poland it defended.
From armistice June 4O, France ceased fights against Germans but not signed peace and get out of the war informing Allies of his "neutral" position in all acts of combat except to defend colonies and interests if attacked.
That the British and his alleged to the crown didn't respect France position isn't his decision in many attacks French ships had to reply.
It's Italians declaring war to France in June 40 to get advantage of the defeat against Germans at fair price of fight, not France declaring war to Mussolini. Italy for enemy wasn't for long until 43 when itself turned to Allies side.
Under Vichy, France didn't declare war to Japan as much they maintained French soverainty in Indochina in change of non invading if French didn't oppose to Japanese demands. Vichy had no choice anyway.
The fight agaisnt Siamese fleet resulted of Siam agressions against French commerce ships in Indochina and in 42 Vichy decided punishment to Siam with heavy cruiser LAMOTTE PICQUET and conserve colonial sloop AMIRAL CHARNER well armed to sink entire fleet of Siam, 2 armoured battleships and 10 destroyers and minor others in Gulf of Siam in the battle of Kho-Shang. No more France needed to war with Siam !(That you call Thaď but didn't exist under this name at the time).
Recall that France, Vichy or not, never at not any time of history has been in war with United States. The fight in Casablanca 42 was consequence of British failure attacks Mers El Kébir in north Africa and the second failure of Dakar in west Africa Sept 40 then that Vichy was neutral not in war with Britain.
That some Australian supported Brits in Casa, with not anymore politic changing like in Diego Suarez 42 (Brit attack of Madagascar), autorities remained faithfull to Vichy, there is no trace I know of Autralian ships apart landed troops like there was a landing. Even De Gaulle not informed of Madagascar strike was very opposed to this attack to defend French autonomy, even Japaneses sent submarines to support Frenches since they held Indian Ocean. France has never been in war vs Australian ships. Participations on Madagascar were only of the British side like South Rhodesia, British Oriental Africa, South Africa which no one France was in war.
Recall that Free French Naval Forces of De Gaulle were in naval fight vs those of Vichy very exceptionally .
In fact French ships of Vichy were bigger navy part of legal France that US prefered to deal with rather than rigid De Gaulle and France of Vichy was in fact in war against nobody !
This is from 43 that France of overseas turned back to re-take naval combats with Allies and fighted Germans and Axis forces since they violated the armistice. Vichy had no long time to survive until 8 May 45 for end of Europe war.
If you include Vichy and Free French I think the navies include The Royal Navy, Kriegsmarine, Italian Nayy, Imperial Japanese Navy, Royal Thai Navy, The US Navy (Casablanca), Australian Navy (Madagascar) and I'm not sure that ships of the Free Dutch (Jacob van Heemskerck?)weren't at Madagascar as well but whether fire was exchanged I don't know. Other potential opponents include Belgium and Poland
