Re: Beginning of WW2
The Thai Navy was the result of conflict between Thailand and France over the border between Thailand and Cambodia, which at the time was part of French Indochina. Encouraged by Japan to act after the fall of France in 1940, the Thais came out on the short end of this fight.
I donít believe that Dutch, Norwegian or Polish ships ever had occassion to engage French ships during the war.
THE THAI NAVY is the 'odd' one , what about China?and if you include RN "other maned" NORWAY AND NETHERLANDS?
HMAS AUSTRALIA also exchanged fire with French ships at Dakar in Operation Menace in September 1940. In addition French ships fought French ships, Free French vs. Vichy French.
If you include Vichy and Free French I think the navies include The Royal Navy, Kriegsmarine, Italian Nayy, Imperial Japanese Navy, Royal Thai Navy, The US Navy (Casablanca), Australian Navy (Madagascar) and I'm not sure that ships of the Free Dutch (Jacob van Heemskerck?)weren't at Madagascar as well but whether fire was exchanged I don't know. Other potential opponents include Belgium and Poland
