Re: French Navy Design C5-SA1 for a CA in 1940
I agree with Jim, The design looks years ahead of its time from the mack, to the sensor suite, to the heavy AA battery. Too bad it never saw the light of day.
And of course, another fine job by John.
It never struck me before now how the stack design of the Dunkerque and Richelieu, and this ship's design seem to have prefigured the "MACK" trend in USN and RN builds from the late 60's to the 90s....
I recently completed a commission to build a model of design C5-SA1 for a French Navy CA to succeed the Algerie. The design was done just prior to WW2 and the fall of France. Here are some photos. A model of the "final" St. Louis class is in the works, awaiting adequate reference material.
