Tom’s dad (“Mike”) was in the 103rd Division of the Seventh Army, entering Europe through Marseilles in October of 1944. In December of that year his unit was overrun and Mike was captured; he would be a POW in Germany through the end of the war.
Mike wrote and recorded a diary of his experiences, and this would later inspire Tom to collect oral histories from other WWII veterans in the Ohio area where he lived; ultimately, more than 500 altogether. Tom was one of the biggest individual contributors of oral histories to the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project.
Tom is survived by his wife Noreen and their son Michael.
