Correct name of the ship is LE FANTASQUE (Not the "fantastique"). That means "Eratic, fancy, in the way of unbearable".
I have not more camof. info on LE FANTASQUE class than your book or mine of Moulin & Lassaque says in French in their correct study. Anyway that class of contre torpilleurs never got any spectacular dazzy system else than very classic shade & measure ones of light and dark grays and the main deck two grays after their 1943 american refit.
Note that four over six of the class were post 42 in camof concern since 2 were lost before in Africa 41; L'AUDACIEUX and 42 Toulon scuttling; L'INDOMPTABLE.
LE TRIOMPHANT got separately the Free French Naval Forces with the Brits in 40.
And mainly the remarkable 10th division of light cruisers re joining Allies in 43 with the 3 ; LE FANTASQUE, LE TERRIBLE, and LE MALIN .
: Reference: French Destroyers 1922-1956 by
: Jordan & Moulin. This book has a couple
: of schemes referenced for the Le Fantastique
: 1. Le Triomphant in December 1940 was
: repainted in Admiralty 516B dark grey (Home
: Fleet colors).
: 2. Le Triomphant in April 1940 wore a
: Mountbatten Pink scheme during the Norwegian
: 3. Le Triomphant in July 1941 had the
: Admiralty 516B scheme reapplied, this time
: with a false bow wave. A picture of this
: scheme is seen on page 254 as the ship is
: seen passing the USS Saratoga in San Diego
: on 25 August 1941.
: 4. Le Triomphant was given a dark grey
: (5-D)at San Diego in September 1941.
: 5. In December 1941 the Le Triomphant was
: given a distruptive schemem on the starboard
: side and a deceptive pattern on the port
: side that featured the silhouette of a cargo
: ship. This pattern was reversed in a March
: 1942 refit.
: 6. Le Triomphant in November 1943 had a US
: Navy dark grey.
: It should be noted that during the refits
: equipment such as AA guns and radar fits
: were upgraded as were asw equipment. So to
: insure the vessel carries the correct scheme
: with the correct equipment you would need to
: have this type of information.
: 7. The refit of the Le Terrible in the US in
: 1943 shows the hull with dark grey hull
: (main deck) with light grey on the raised
: foredeck and upper superstructure. This
: scheme seems to have been used on many of
: the class as they went through US refits in
: Alain may have some other info. as he is
: very knowledgeable on the French fleet.
