In Oscar Parkes' "British Battleships", which gives a short history for each ship, there is only one sentence in the bio for Hood saying she was in action against French ships at Oran. No mention in the bios for Valiant and Resolution that they were also there. Perhaps retrospective embarrassment at the British action?
: I'm gradually working my way through Oscar
: Parkes "British Battleships" and a
: question about HMS Dreadnought came to mind.
: Her initial secondary armament of 12pdrs
: for anti-torpedo boat defense was
: concentrated on top of her main 12in
: turrets. Parkes says this gave them good
: all-around views and arcs of fire. But how
: in the world did they pass ammunition up?
: That would seem to be a lot of men exposed
: and having to pass a lot of shells very
: quickly for these rapid-fire guns. Also, I
: can't imagine them being manned when the big
: guns are firing because of the blast
: The Bellerophon class compounded this
: problem by having 4in turret-mounted
: anti-torpedo boat guns. How did they do it?
