I have the book "The Aircraft Carriers of the Imperial Japanese Army" published by Dainippon Kaiga that has some actual pictures taken of a Yamashiro class carrier. On page 71 pictures probably taken from a photo recon aircraft shows the forward elevator in the lowered position. One of the pictures actually shows the carrier underway. Pg. 72 shows the carrier under bombing attack. The bottom picture clearly shows the elevator in the lowered position and extensive bomb damage especially in the fore part of the carrier. At least in that picture no deck markings are visible. One item to note is that the picture shows a smaller square elevator not the octagonal one depicted in the model. But I doubt I will make the change in my models. One of the drawings in the book shows a two tone gray scheme on the hull. I might consider that on one of the models.
