More on Shapeways 3D Japanese Models

I want to add my experience with the shapeways models to last weeks discussion. Having built 5 of the Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD) models my overall experience has been positive. Also, thanks to Christian Dey and Dan Muir for their coaching when I first started. Several models arrived partially frosted and partially white, suggesting uneven curing. After a thorough cleaning with warm soapy water, Christian suggests a 30 minute soak in lighter fluid. This turns the frosted bits an even white. After another scrubbing to remove any residual oils, you are ready for a light sanding and paint with acrylics. I have not prepped with a primer and had no trouble with the paint adhering. I do find that it improves the model to remove and replace masts and add bulwarks and guns which are relatively simple alterations. This was especially true for the Type 2L AO/AV models.
Below are my results:

Since there are no actual reference pictures, my paint schemes are consistent with late war IJN colors and the aircraft are there only because they look cool. I really hope these makers will find a market and continue to produce models and would encourage others to give them a try.
