Vasa looks fabulous! Can't wait to get mine.
: For our meeting yesterday, 15 collectors
: showed up at my house, and Tom Vargas was
: with us in spirit. Tom underwent a very
: extensive back surgery on Friday. All
: participants are wishing him a speedy and
: good recovery.
: Bill Laferriere could not attend our meeting
: because of recent heart surgery. All the
: best to you and your recovery, Bill.
: We had a very lively and interesting
: meeting. Here are some of the highlights:
: just last week, I received a package from
: Roland Klinger, Rodkling, with his 20th
: anniversary model of the 1628 Wasa. My
: photos do not show all the incredible
: details of this fantastic model. You almost
: need a magnifying glass to see them all. If
: you ever had a chance to visit the Wasa
: museum in Stockholm, you will appreciate how
: Roland has duplicated the charm of this in
: his model.
: John Youngerman brought his recent
: production of 21 new models. And what a
: variety he had in stock for us. You can see
: it all in 7 photos of my attached photo
: Barry Schrock always finds unique items at
: yard sales, antique stores, etc. Take a look
: at his blue hat and the Double Eagle of
: tsarist Russia. And while you are looking at
: the photos of him take note of what he is
: preparing to eat: start with a Krispy Kreme
: donut, split in halves. Add, ham, cheese and
: mustard for a "sweet" sandwich.
: What a connoisseur.
: Further down in my album, you can see 4
: harbor dioramas that Barry brought in
: 1/3000, filled with models.
: During the formal part of our meeting, we
: had some serious discussions about the
: current condition of the difficult and
: shrinking 1250 market. Paul pointed out,
: again, how the further distance to WW II,
: seems to lower the interest in the gray
: ships of our hobby. Some of the 1250
: producers are forced to raise their prices
: to offset diminishing sales, and higher
: prices cause sales to decline further. Where
: will it end.
: Phil Woofruff, Harold and Don Andrews, and
: Les Kawamoto reported on their exhibit of
: the Spirit of'45 event this year. The event
: was shortened in time this year, only from
: 12 - 5. And attendance was down in visitors
: and exhibitors. But they still had an
: interesting day with many discussions.
: For Veterans Day this year, Harold, Les and
: Phil will attend a Veterans parade and
: exhibit at Santana Row in San Jose, where
: several thousand people are expected. They
: will scout out the possibility for one of
: our exhibits in 2019. Good luck.
: We were all very sorry that Matti Bröcher
: was not able to attend our meeting. We hope
: that somehow there will be a way for him to
: recoup his lost ticket money from the Air
: Berlin bankruptcy. And we are still looking
: forward to the grey surprises that he had
: promised us.
: For our next meeting next year
: February/March, Barry Schrock will
: coordinate with the Alameda Air Museum so
: that we can hold our meeting at the museum
: while they also have another interesting
: event. More details to be announced later.
: And Paul reminded us that we still have an
: open invitation from the Jeremiah O'Brien
: for a future meeting.
: Last: here are my photos from the meeting
