Cunard's Carmania, GLR model (GLR 16) and Hamburg Sud's Cap Trafalgar, Mercator model (M411). Both had been converted to armed merchant cruisers early in WW1 and they fought each other off Trinidad Island. Cap trafalgar sank. Neither ship looked like the models in your picture, Carmania was in overall grey and Cap Trafalgar had her dummy funnel removed and had darkened ship (black hull & funnels and grey upperworks). It is only fair to point out that Carmania outgunned Cap Trafalgar who only had a couple of guns from a gunboat whereas Carmania had been armed with older 6" guns and Carmania was left on fire and burning but was soon given help to control the fires and escorted to Gibraltar for repairs.
: Identify these two ships (and models) and the
: connection between them.
