: I have read all the MB comments on the McCAIN,
: and reread the 1250 Scale collective wit and
: wisdom on the FITZGERALD incident. There are
: speculative posts after post about: blame,
: relative courses, cover up, FITZ will be a
: total loss, career implications, ship motto,
: GPS, hacking/conspiracy, stealthy
: characteristics, 20' sailboats, Norwegian
: sea stories, and so on.
: What I find appalling from our little ship
: collecting community is the total lack of
: comment (humanity) about 17 dead American
: sailors. Nowhere in the list of concerns
: above will you find a mention of them.
: The FITZGERALD and the McCAIN are not
: 5.5" models in a display case or on a
: table.....they are real ships manned by real
: people at the point of the spear. Humans.
: They are out there....and you're (we're)
: not. Machines have failures, humans make
: mistakes. The Navy will get to the root of
: the problem without cover up, and heads will
: roll where appropriate.
: Take a deep breath, mourn the dead, and
: let's see where the facts and investigations
: take us. Kevin has it right (as to at least
: one McCAIN causal factor...there could be
: more), but the rest is just idle
: speculation. And George, whoever your
: "friend in the Navy" is who said
: GPS would have anything to do with
: navigation in congested sea lanes....is
: grossly uninformed.
