Very fine models, Rick! Of possible interest to East Coast readers, the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, VA, now has a large exhibit about the technology involved in the 2013 and 2017 America's Cup race boats. The 2013 winner, ORACLE is on display in the Museum's largest exhibit hall (minus the 131-ft. tall mast), and there is also a terrific diorama showing ORACLE and her chief competitor racing at San Francisco. This year's boats are smaller than the 2013 craft by about a fifth and weigh only about 6,000 lb compared to the 14,000 lb of the ORACLE. The exhibit at Mariners' has been showing live the various preliminary races on a large flatscreen and has some terrific audiovisual displays, along with examples of the materials use in making the boats and their huge sails. Absolutely fascinating and well worth a visit (especially since admission has been reduced to $1.00 for this summer). Takes about 5 hours to view everything at the Museum, including a separate building with about three dozen real small craft from around the world.
