A photo is worth ten thousand plans to me especially when working with very old reference books. I hope this helps! Perhaps you could build the Shapeways model as is and then add a very thin tin or brass flying deck? That wouldn't require too much effort and might make a big difference. I might try that one myself as I had really looked forward to a decent 1:1200 or 1:1250 model of the prewar Kaga. I have a very good model of one from Japan but it is in 1/700 scale. Please let us know how it all turns out! Thanks!
: In checking my resources it would seem the
: flight deck design was taken almost exactly
: from "Battleships and Battle Cruisers
: 1905-1970" by Siegfried Breyer on page
: 352. The design of the sides of the model
: also match up with this reference. The
: Peddinghaus decals also match what is shown
: on this page.
: So we shall have to wait for someone else to
: come up with a 3-deck Kaga using updated
: sources and drawings. I will go ahead and
: complete the model as it is still better
: than the other Kaga. This will provide
: additional experience in completing these
: white strong and flexible models.
